                             "Cinderpelt! Help me!"

Cinderpelt's eyes shot open, her grey fur standing on end and pale blue eyes filled with fear. She looked around her den, her breating returning to its normal rate as she took confort from the familiar rock walls and stacks of herbs around her. She had to get over these nightmares, nigt after night she saw different versions of the death of her former mentor, Yellowfang. Sighing, the medicine cat of Thunderclan stood and shook the moss from her pelt, she had to get to work!
Padding out of her den and into the fern clearing of her den, she saw Firestar's mate, Sandstorm, trudging across the clearing towards her. She rolled her eyes and busied herself by cleaning her paws in the pool of clear, cool water at the side of the clearing. She heard Sandstorm's pawssteps draw nearer and pad along the fern tunnel inter her clearing.

"Cinderpelt?" Sandstorm sounded preocupied as she moved a little closer. "Can I-can I talk to you?"

Cinderpelt turned and put on the most believing smile she could. "Of course, Sandstorm, why would you think you couldn't."

Cinderpelt blinked in surprise as Sandstorm gave her a dry look. "I know as well as you do that I'm far from being your favourite cat, but I need to talk to you about something that you can't tell Firestar!" she glanced behind her, as if she were expecting someone.

Cinderpelt cleared her throat. "Alright, do you want to stay here or go out into the forest?" She asked her gently, fearing for her leader already.

Sandstorm shook her pale ginger head. "No, here is fine." She sat down and Cinderpelt immediately saw something different about her, but she couldn't quite think what. "Cinderpelt, I've been feeling...different, but I'm not sick and I know what it is I'm feeling and me and Firestar have been wanting this eventually, but I'm not sure I want this after all." Sandstorm blurted.

Cinderpelt blinked. "So, what are you telling me?" she asked awkwardly.

Sandstorm whipped her tail across the dusty floor and fixed her with a desperate green gaze. "Don't you understand?" she asked and Cinderpelt shook her head. Sandstorm sighed and swallowed before going on. "Cinderpelt...I think, I mean, I know I might possibly be...expecting kits..." The pale ginger warrior didn't look at the medicine cat.

Cinderpelt gasped, her heart plummeting in her chest, this couldn't be happeing! Now Firestar was further away than ever. The grey medicine cat tried to collect her thoughts before replying in a thin, unsteady voice. "Wi-with...Firestar?"

Sandstorm's head shot up. "Of course!" She replied indignantly. "Cinderpelt, I need to talk to you about this, please help me!"

Cinderpelt stood and turned around, her head low as thoughts raced through her head. "No, Sandstorm, I'm sorry, but I can't. It is too late now, the kits are here." She turned and smiled at her leaders' mate. "Go and tell Firestar, Sandstorm, I know he would love to hear this."

Sandstorm rose to her paws as well. "Oh Cinderpelt, I am so afraid!"

Cinderpelt reached forward and licked the warriors' shoulder. "Don't be, everything will be fine. Me and Firestar will be with you every day, so will the rest of the clan!"

Sandstorm smiled, her green eyes finally filled with joy. "Thank you Cinderpelt, I'll go and tell Firestar right away!" she turned and raced out of the den, the ferns quivering where she had passed by them only a heartbeat before.

Cinderpelt sighed and dropped her head. Now that Sandstorm was expecting Firestar's kits, she felt that she had lost her best friend, her mentor, altogether. She knew this would have happened at some point, but this was too soon! She hadn't got over Yellowfang's death yet, and now she had to deliver a she-cat's kits with whom the father she still loved deeply. Firestar being so deeply in love with Sandstorm hadn't changed anything, like she hoped it would.

"Cinderpelt."

Cinderpelt turned at the familiar voice and gasped. "Yellowfang!" Her pale blue eyes filled with joy and she rushed to her mentor, but Yellowfang raised her tail and she stopped obediantly.

Yellowfang's shaggy black fur shone with starlight and her round orange eyes were two pools of wisdom and light, but there was strength again in her muscles and she smiled at her former apprentice with a warmth that surprised even Cinderpelt. "Greetings, Medicine Cat of Thunderclan." Yellowfang purred.

Cinderpelt was in awe of her revitalised mentor. "Oh Yellowfang, I have missed you so much! But what are you doing here," She straightened. "Does Starclan have a message for me? For Thunderclan?"

Yellowfang nodded and moved forward until she was standing almost nose to nose with Cinderpelt. "Cinderpelt, Starclan is aware of your feelings towards Firestar," Cinderpelt hung her head, her blue eyes clouding with guilt. "But, that is not your destiny, your destiny is much greater than this, my old apprentice. The kits that Sandstorm will bare have an important destiny as well, you must look after them and make sure no harm comes to them, Thunderclan needs both of them to complete its' own destiny."

Cinderpelt blinked up at Yellowfang. "I don't understand, why are you telling me this? Why not Firestar?"

Yellowfan rolled her eyes, instantly reminding Cinderpelt of the days when yellowfang walked beside her, as her mentor and her friend. "Firestar will father these kits, and be as good a father to them as he has been a mate to Sandstorm, but he has the rest of the clan to look after and watch over. Sandstorm realised this moons ago, you must realise this now. It is your duty to watch over these kits and lead their pawsteps into the paths they need to tred."

Cinderpelt nodded and bowed her head. "I will try Yellowfang, I promise you." She murmured sombrely.

Yellowfang smiled and touched her nose to Cinderpelt's bowed head. "I know you will Cinderpelt, just as you always have." She whispered before she dissapeared in a swirl of stars and starlight, leaving Cinderpelt alone in her den with nothing but the cool of starlight and the scent of her old mentor.
Here is another one about Cinderpelt's conflicting emotions, but this time Sandstorm has some rather unsettling news for her. If you like it, I can build on this plot more and write about Sandstorm telling Firestar. This would have happened some time after Firestar and Sandstorm came back from Skyclan in Firestar's Quest, and I know that she probably would've told Firestar first, but I quite like the idea of Cinderpelt fancying Firestar.
